The premise: There’s been a lot of discussion and debate recently around the concept of VUI (Voice User Interface) Standards, and whether or not standards would be helpful for designers in our industry. A recent article in SpeechTEK magazine (“The Great Debate” / November 2009) brought this discussion to light. Although there was support for some type of VUI standards, the article clearly showed that the concept of VUI standards is ill-defined in terms of what it could or should be. A majority of interviewees, including Angel’s own Principal VUI Designer, Mike Ahnemann, expressed skepticism about the concept of hard and fast standards for VUI Designers to follow.Z
