CBP in Savannah Intercepts Counterfeit Cell Phone Chargers

Savannah, GA. ' U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the port of Savannah seized 614 cartons containing 61,685 cell phone chargers bearing counterfeit logos, officials announced today. The shipment included such brand names as Nokia, Motorola, Samsung and Apple iPhone.
CBP officers discovered the merchandise in a container that was selected for examination. After consulting with CBP import specialists, the merchandise was found to be fraudulent and was seized on September 24. The shipment had a total domestic value of $95,192 and a manufacturers suggested retail price of $1,511,034.
"CBP continues to plays a key role in Intellectual Property Rights enforcement, said John Porter, area port director in Savannah. "CBP continues to stay focused on combating the illegitimate trade in fraudulent products."
CBP has designated IPR enforcement as a priority trade issue. To address the ongoing threat to domestic industries and the need to identify and interdict counterfeited goods, CBP works closely with private industry, other U.S. government agencies and foreign governments to stem the flow of illegal goods, to protect consumers and the economy.
