Gadgets -Apple set to Bring Back Side Switch Lock for iPad

It’s a great time to be excited if you’re an owner of an iPad. Apple (News - Alert) is giving back the option to use the iPad's side switch as a screen rotation lock again, and not just as a volume mute switch. This has annoyed many users (to say the least) because it became more of a pain to lock in the screen orientation. This feature will be in the iPad's Settings section of their soon to be released iOS 4.3. Having this additional option to lock the screen makes it easier to do simple (but relaxing) task like reading in bed.

In related news, Verizon (News - Alert) has relied heavily on Android platform phones to keep it relevant in the smart phone dominated mobile communications field. However a report is claiming that Verizon’s marketing focus will quickly shift to showcase the iPhone now that it has become available on their network. Kaufman Bros. analysy Shaw Wu issued a note to investors Wensday indicating that Verizon was preparing to put much of its marketing strength behind Apple’s iPhone (News - Alert). Wu also suggested that the ad campaign could potential take a toll on the android platform.

"On its homepage, [Verizon] is already highlighting the iPhone 4 and iPad as flagship products with not much else in sight (save for a Jabra Bluetooth Headset)," Wu said. Even though Motorola (News - Alert) has recently announced a new premium Android phone in the Droid Bionic, there is no mention of this fact on Verizon’s front page.

This will be the first time that Android (News - Alert) will have significant intra-carrier Smartphone competition aside from phones on the more business oriented blackberry offerings.
