Sprint will offer a tablet computer for about $100 starting on Sunday. The ZTE (News - Alert) Optik operates on Sprint’s 3G network, and features a seven-inch touchscreen that has WXGA 1280x800 resolution. It also has Android 3.2, Honeycomb, and two cameras.
It will be sold for about $100 at stores or online with a new line or an eligible upgrade, as well as a two-year agreement. Without the contract, it is a steeper $349.99.
“Sprint (News
- Alert) is committed to delivering exceptional value and feature-rich devices to our customers,” David Owens, vice president of Product Development at Sprint, said in a company press release. “ZTE Optik packs great features for under $100. When this device is combined with our Tablet Connection plans, customers can easily keep their personal and professional lives organized, stay connected with their social networks and get things done while on the go.”
It also has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The tablet features a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm (News
- Alert) Snapdragon processor. And it comes with a 4000 mAh Lithium-ion battery, and has an expandable memory slot, the company said.
“ZTE Optik is ZTE’s first tablet in North America and makes the tablet experience available to a new segment of consumers,” Lixin Cheng, CEO, ZTE USA, said in a statement carried on TMCnet. “Paired with Sprint’s cutting-edge network, ZTE Optik provides an exceptional user experience to consumers who demand affordability, flexibility and mobility in one package.”
The new tablet is one of the least expensive available, says PC World. “The Optik's hardware is decent, if not top of the line,” comments PC World in a product review.
In a related matter, ZTE provides service to over 500 carriers in over 160 countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America and South Asia, the company says on its website.
