RR Donnelley (News - Alert) has acquired an equity stake in CoffeeTable, the iPad app attempting to shorten the distance to purchase by enabling quick click-to-purchase functionality to the electronic version of many popular retail catalogs.
CoffeeTable is an eReader app for the iPad specializing in bringing retail publications to America's favorite tablet. The one-of-a-kind application allows for catalog browsing and very easy purchases for most consumers. CoffeeTable was developed by Real Valuable Corp., and stands as the only mobile catalog widget with Express Checkout Technology. The program periodically hosts giveaways and sales on tons of items.
The app also lets publishers extend special offers to its users. CoffeeTable's greatest selling point, though, is how it has shortened the distance to purchase over the traditional paper catalog. Ease of browsing is paramount, but the ordering process from paper is painstaking and often prohibits real sales.
CoffeeTable permits click-to-purchase, allowing the end-user to buy quickly with a variety of options like color and size. The company has struggled, however, to attract both retailers and consumers.
RR Donnelly is a global distributor of a breadth of communications solutions. It draws from a range of proprietary and commercially available services, ranging from traditional print publications to more progressive digital solutions deployed across four continents.
The sheer size of RR Donnelly will bring horsepower that CoffeeTable currently lacks. "No one is better positioned to help business create, produce, distribute and monetize content,” said Anne Marie Bushell, President of RR Donnelly's CustomPoint Solutions. “With this investment in CoffeeTable, RR Donnelly is taking the lead in helping our customers' content connect with the right audiences through the right channels at just the right time."
