Sasken Communication Intros Automotive Infotainment Solution

Sasken Communication Technologies (News - Alert) has announced the release of an Automotive Infotainment solution, optimized on the Jacinto platform from Texas Instruments (News - Alert) Inc. (TI).

The company said that as a part of its solution portfolio for automotive customers, it has developed a Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) / Infotainment software package that leverages the Jacinto platform.

Srinivas Prasad, associate vice president for mobility, auto and consumer electronics at Sasken, said that TI’s Jacinto platform was the first option for Sasken when they were in the planning stage.

“Jacinto has huge traction in the automotive world, and its rich feature set enabled by the presence of the IVA-HD, SGX530 GPU and ARM (News - Alert) Cortex A8 processors made it an obvious choice,” Prasad explained.

For drivers and passengers, TI’s Jacinto automotive infotainment processors fuel visual computing and entertainment capabilities. Company officials said that the processors feature 3D graphic accelerators and video co-processors that support advanced HMIs and navigation, and 1080p HD video playback and streaming as well.

Matthew Watson, product line manager for audio and infotainment at TI, said that TI is committed to serving the automotive industry with innovative and automotive-grade technologies that will help manufacturers differentiate in an increasingly technology-driven marketplace.

To that end, the company looks to work with compatible industry technology providers who can assist in their mission, Watson said, adding that Sasken is one such provider, as the company offers a compelling RSE/Infotainment software solution that will help integrate the smartphone experience into the vehicle – delivering to meet consumer expectations and needs.

Sasken’s Automotive Infotainment solution enables HD playback of most content found on the Internet, iPod / iPhone (News - Alert) / iPad connectivity – including playback of video found on these devices and playback on multiple screens from a single processor.

Moreover, this latest offering also enables playback of smartphone content on the system using Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), an industry-wide standard for sharing data on a home network.

In the near future, the company plans to include integration with next generation connectivity technologies such as LTE (News - Alert), enabling access to content in the cloud, support for encode capability to allow video-conferencing, and more.

Sasken is an R&D Technology Solutions company that offers a combination of R&D consultancy, wireless software products, solutions and services. Earlier this year in March, the company became a licensed JukeBlox Design Partner.
