Devicescape recently announced the release of the DataSaver Android application, which will help smartphone consumers to lessen their cellular data usage. Smartphone users are being extra cautious regarding data usage and the resulting overage fees with the rise in the rich content experiences over the mobile. DataSaver automatically locates and utilizes WiFi (News - Alert) networks for offering the best quality data service for the users.

Unrestricted WiFi connectivity while on move is not an option for a majority of smartphone users. Apart from the public WiFi situated at a small number of popular retail stores, smartphone users cannot easily connect to a public WiFi. Devicescape's curated, virtual network or CVN consisting of at least 8 million WiFi hotspots will now be used for automatic connections by DataSaver.

In a release, Jean-Marc Matteini, GM of Consumer for Devicescape said, "DataSaver is one app all Android (News - Alert) users should have installed, and best of all, it's free. The app is completely automatic, and given the tremendous size of the Devicescape Network, our users can cut their cellular data consumption by 30 percent or more."

DataSaver comprises of a Connection Manager and a Data Manager. The Connection Manager offers direct and instantaneous access to the Devicescape CVN of 8 million WiFi hotspots. Personalized WiFi hotspot accounts like for home, school, airports etc. can be created by users. These accounts can also include login functionality, thereby offering an extremely comfortable WiFi experience to the users.

Users are also provided information regarding their current data connection performance by the Data Manager through the Data Speed widget. The Data Savings widget provides comparison data regarding the user’s WiFi and 3G/4G usage. The Data Manager alerts the users when they are about to exceed their data plans and offers tips to enhance data savings. The data consumed by the users can also be checked by using the app, wherein all the information is displayed in a user-friendly simplified user interface.
