Leviton Announces New USB Charging Device

Leviton today introduced its new USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle offering 2.1A of charging power and a 15A/125V Tamper-Resistant Receptacle. Unlike many of its competitors, the device has the ability to charge two USB-powered electronic devices utilizing its two USB Ports, leaving the Tamper-Resistant Receptacle vacant and available for other use.

The device is designed to charge tablets, smartphones and other handhelds, gaming devices, and a variety of other electronic devices.

Leviton’s USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle is designed with two vertical USB Ports. With this design, there is extra space to maneuver charging cords, as well as the ability to reduce stress on the cables while charging.

The USB Ports are Type A, 2.0/3.0 and incorporate a smart chip to improve efficiency. This chip recognizes and optimizes the charging power of the device plugged in.

It is engineered to fit in a standard wallbox, use a standard wallplate, or be multi-ganged with any standard Leviton wiring device should it be necessary.

As an added safety feature, the receptacle's shutter mechanism will block access to the contacts from most foreign objects. The device is designed for a variety of locations from kitchens, bedrooms, home offices, hotels, airports, office cubicles, college dorm rooms and anywhere else that a USB charging device is required.

"More than ever, today's consumers are seeking a fast, effective means to power a wide range of personal electronic devices," said William Randall, Leviton's director of Product Management for Residential. "The Leviton USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle provides the charging power necessary for even the most demanding devices."

The device is available for sale across Leviton’s retail networks, as well as on the Leviton online store, for $29.99. The USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle is available in two colors, white and light almond, and includes a five-year limited warranty.
