Nintendo Wii U to Hit Shelves November 18

Those who have been biting their nails waiting for a release date for Nintendo’s WiiU will finally be able to have mercy on their cuticles.

The video game giant announced that its newest console gaming system will hit the market on November 18 for just under $300. The date is perfect for the company to see a rush, as it is just days ahead of Black Friday (News - Alert) and the pandemonium that surrounds shoppers trying to get the season’s best gifts for the holidays.

Nintendo hopes this particular console gaming system will not only be able to leave its competitors like the Microsoft (News - Alert) Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 in the dust, but that a set of two touchscreen controllers will be attractive enough to take on tablets like the Apple (News - Alert) iPad.

In addition to the controllers, which reportedly act quite a bit like their own little tablets, the WiiU is said to have a built in DVR that will allow you to watch and record live television, as much as you would a cable set top box.

Not surprisingly, the newest console will also have internet access and be able to stream services like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube (News - Alert) and Amazon. Pair that with the ability to watch live television, and the Wii U is certainly setting itself up as a versatile machine.

Along with the console, users will have access to a Wiiverse – basically Nintendo’s own social network.

The Wii U will come in two variations, with the 8GB costing $299.99 and another larger 32GB version that will cost $349. While this price tag (News - Alert) is a bit larger than the Xbox 360, at a low $200, the Wii U seems to be offering quite a bit more than just another video game system.

There will be plenty of games as well; Nintendo has said there are already 23 titles exclusively produced for this new system.
