Beats Audio Unveils the Pill, Executive Headphones

Beats Audio is becoming a bigger player in the music business every day. While the company has long been known as one that works well with a multitude of different smartphones, it’s also worked hard at making a name for itself outside that market, as evidenced by its attempt to enter the streaming music industry with the purchase of MOG.

This particular move has long been seen as one that would position the company as a direct competitor with Spotify (News - Alert). Beats’ bread and butter is still the high-quality headphones and speakers it produces, and the company solidified its standing with the announcement of the pill speaker and a line of Executive headphones.

The Pill is a portable speaker, which does indeed look like the biggest horse pill you’ve ever seen.  The speaker is actually a pill-shaped sphere that brings to mind more of a cucumber than anything else. The Pill will reportedly have an MSRP of about $199.

The Pill can connect to a whole host of devices either using a Bluetooth connection, Near-Field Communication technology or a regular old cable. It comes in red, black or white and can charge using a USB cable, holding that charge for up to seven hours.

The Executive headphones are going to retail for about $299 and will be characterized as the top headphones in the company. These particular headphones are made of materials that are higher quality than what other headphones in the company’s line are made of. The Executive headphone lines will be made with stainless steel, brushed aluminum and hand-stitched leatherette.

Both the pill and the Executive headphones are built to compete with the company’s main competitors, and Beats Audio believes it has made these products at a high enough quality that they will command a good market share.
