ABI Research Ranks Apple First in the Ultrabook Competitive Assessment Report Ahead of Samsung, Lenovo and Other Vendors

As the technology market grows, ABI Research is adapting to accommodate newly emerging solid gadget fields in famous researches and company rankings. Recently, it created the new “Ultrabooks” Competitive Assessment report to scrutinize and rank vendors based on a hoard of factors with market shares in 2012.

The findings of the report confirm that the clamor around the release of new Apple (News - Alert) gadgets this year was all not in vain. Apple ranks first in the mobile computing market with an average score for innovation and implementation at 84.7 percent. The report places Lenovo second with a total score of 77.5 percent, with Samsung (News - Alert) closing the top three with a score of 74.4 percent.

Apple apparently gets the edge over other product names from its aggressive implementation – a factor that breaks down to vendor market popularity, global research and strategy, strategic partners, market support functions and product portfolio.

Sinking deeper into the implementation section of the report, it’s evident that Apple’s success is from its global presence, market strategy and dominant market share through the MacBook Air line. Runner up Samsung scoops its category marks from its market support activities, while third-placed Lenovo (News - Alert) scores with its diverse array of ultrabooks and strong market strategy.

Other findings that don’t directly affect the ranking of vendors, but indeed affect the purchase of their products,  give a valid explanation as to why the ultrabooks market has not yet switched into hyper drive.

Senior analyst at ABI Research, Josh Flood, believes the lag comes from stiff competition mounted by media tablets, the launch of windows 8 and general high ultrabook price tags.

Flood, however, believes the lag will be short lived. In his opinion, customers will embrace the gadgets once the price drops to a reasonable level and users realize that content creation is more convenient on ultrabooks that it is on media tablets.

Apart from the top three performers, other participants in the research included Acer (News - Alert), Asus, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, LG, Sony, Toshiba and Vizio.
