Organic Motion announced today that it’s signed what it calls the largest deal in the history of multiple motion capture systems with Swiss Manufacturing Technology Ltd., a subsidiary of International Sports Holding AG.
Under the agreement, SMT will launch and install customized systems throughout the worldwide network of BMC dealers in the fourth quarter of this year. Organic Motion makes marker-less motion capture technology. The company says it increases a computer’s ability to “see” and understand the motion of humans and other living organisms to generate accurate 3D tracking data in real time.
According to Rolf Singenberger, head of development at SMT, “A scientifically approved fitting process is an important mosaic piece which influences the cyclist’s riding performance considerably and therefore completes the high-tech experience a typical BMC customer has with our innovative Swiss precision machines. Organic Motion’s systems give us a competitive advantage and the unique ability to provide our customers with a real-time in-store experience that comfortably tracks their cycling motion and helps promote our newest and most advanced product lines to come.”
The systems of SMT are based on the OpenSTAGE platform of Organic Motion. The technology digitizes the movements of an individual. Organic Motion users have to wear their regular clothing only as against special tracking body suits worn by subjects using the traditional motion capture systems, according to the company. When individuals pass through the system in rapid succession, each person’s exact body movement data will be instantly streamed into software for analysis or display. The digital motion of each rider will flow into a customized biomechanical application for cycling in the case of SMT’s systems, company officials say.
The technology of Organic Motion is available in three platforms: OpenSTAGE – this platform enables customized marker-less motion capture systems to be created for applications for public installation; STAGE – this markerless motion capture system redefines content creation and animation production capabilities for entertainment industry; and BioSTAGE – a marker-less system for life sciences, which provides biomechanics analysis to doctors, clinicians, researchers and sports professionals. Ability to critically analyze human movement is provided
