Gadgets -Sony Ericsson Unveils T700 Cell Phone

Sony Ericsson (News - Alert) on Thursday unveiled a new multimedia cell phone, the T700. This phone will be launched in select markets during fourth quarter 2008 at what the company called a “mid-range” price point.

Sony Ericsson T700 Cell PhoneThe T700 features Bluetooth connectivity, push e-mail, and a 3.2-megapixel camera. It’s a GSM-compatible handset measuring 1.9 by 4.1 by 0.4 inches and weighing 2.8 ounces. The candy-bar shaped phone is 0.4 inch thick and has a polished-metal finish with two-inch TFT display.

In its announcement, Sony Ericsson compared the T700 to phones like Motorola’s L6 and L7 and Nokia’s (News - Alert) 6300 and 5310 Xpress Music. This makes it especially appealing to mobile professionals, the company said. In that light, notable features include support for Microsoft's (News - Alert) Exchange ActiveSync for push corporate e-mail, and for Web-based Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) accounts like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail.

Additionally, T700 features a Wireless Application Protocol 2.0 (WAP 2.0)/HTML Web browser, and its capable of providing mobile Internet access over third generation (3G) networks and EDGE connections.

T700 also features music and multimedia capabilities that put it in the category of other recently launched Walkman phones from Sony Ericsson (News - Alert). The included digital music player is capable of handling multiple codecs. The phone also includes an integrated FM radio.

T700 plays videos in the MPEG4, WMV, and H.263 formats. The 3.2-megapixel camera comes with flash, a self-portrait mirror, and video recording capabilities.

Additional features include an organizer, ‘text on 9 keys’ (T9) capabilities, voice memo recorder, built-in hands-free controls, and expandable memory via a Memory Stick Micro slot. It comes in three colors: black on silver, black on red, and silver.

Mark your calendars for Internet Telephony Conference & EXPO — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year.  ITEXPO (News - Alert) will take place in Los Angeles, California, September 16-18, 2008, featuring three valuable days of exhibits, conferences, and networking opportunities you can’t afford to miss.
