Gadgets -TomTom to Expand Business to Russia

Portable navigation provider TomTom (News - Alert) has announced that it is making a foray into the Russian market with its comprehensive suite of products including the flagship TomTom GO x30 series (flagship TomTom GO 930 and TomTom GO 730).

As per the latest announcement, the company will offer its mid-range product TomTom XL and entry-level product TomTom ONE. TomTom’s range of products come equipped with a Cyrillic user interface, clear Russian voice instructions and a detailed map of Russia, Europe or the U.S. and the devices feature TomTom’s core navigation features and unique Map Share technology.

“Russia has one of the fastest growing consumer electronic markets (CET) and is widely recognized by the automotive industry that it’s set to quickly become the largest car market in Europe,” said Corinne Vigreux, TomTom’s managing director. “Offering our fully localized PND products in Russia is a logical step and at the same time of integral importance to TomTom’s business strategy and future growth.”

TomTom will sell its products through a chain of distributors spread across Moscow and St Petersburg.  TomTom ONE is listing at RUB 7990 and TomTom GO 930 is listing at RUB 16990 and will be available starting at the end of November 2008.

The Web pages on www.tomtom.com are designed exclusively for Russia and will go live in November as well.

Independent research has proved that TomTom products have a considerable positive effect on driving and road safety. Although portable navigation devices are facing stiff competition from smart phones and more factory-installed dashboard navigation systems, TomTom is slated to have several more years of sales growth in the category.
