Gadgets -Comtech Receives Big Order from U.S. Army

Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation has landed a new order worth $282 million from the U.S. Army to deploy its Movement Tracking System.

The Germantown, Maryland-based subsidiary of Comtech Telecom has described the new contract as the biggest order it ever received so far from the U.S. military.

Total orders received to date against the company's $605.1 million IDIQ MTS (News - Alert) contract increased to $426.2 million, the company said in a statement.

Under the new contract, Comtech will supply newly upgraded ruggedized computers including ruggedized keyboards, docking stations, interface cables and base plates. All of which, the company says, will be integrated into previously deployed MTS systems.

“Based on the timing of the availability of the third-party computer, and a preliminary delivery schedule provided to us by the U.S. Army, we do not expect to begin deliveries, relating to this order, until the latter part of our fourth quarter of fiscal 2009,” the company stated.

“We are experiencing good business momentum as we look to fiscal 2010 and our business remains strong as we continue to benefit from our market-leading positions in all three of our business segments,'' said Comtech’s President and CEO, Fred Kornberg (News - Alert), describing the latest contract as the biggest single order in the history of the company.

As the war in Afghanistan drags on, Comtech hopes to receive more such orders from the Army.

Comtech's Model MT-2012 Transceiver features Savi Technology's EchoPoint RFID Reader, as well as secure Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities.

The company sells products to a diverse customer base in the global commercial and government communications markets.
