Gadgets -Agito Networks Ships Cost Effective Software System Out for BlackBerry Smartphones

Agito Networks, Inc., an enterprise mobility provider, announced that Agito for BlackBerry began shipping early in September, delivering VoIP over WiFi and Unified Communications (News - Alert), or “UC,” to the BlackBerry platform.

With this shipment, BlackBerry smartphone users can use Agito’s RoamAnywhere Mobility Router, which supports the broadest set of handsets, PBXs and WLANs, and delivers industry-leading WiFi (News - Alert)/cellular network handover

Pekman Roshan, chief marketing officer at Agito, said that the company’s Voice over WLAN, or “VoWLAN,” and mobile UC support for BlackBerry (News - Alert) smartphones is a known requirement in the industry.

"These initial shipments mark the culmination of our significant investment in this functionality as a BlackBerry ISV Alliance Member over the past two years,” Roshan said. “With our widely recognized differentiation, Agito is now expanding our ability to meet the mobility needs of enterprises worldwide."

Agito for BlackBerry uses standard BlackBerry APIs to deliver capabilities for BlackBerry smartphone users rather than adding on additional systems which ups the cost of servers and constant PBX (News - Alert) upgrades.

Santiago Chico, CEO of Vsys, an integrator of managed telecom systems, and a user of Agito’s Blackberry systems, said that companies are on the go throughout offices and client offices, and need to be reached conveniently by our customers and colleagues at the lowest cost possible.

"With Agito for BlackBerry, I use only one phone number and one device to be reached regardless of where I am,” Chico said. “On top of that, the fact that I don't have to change my usage patterns to use the Agito system is very convenient. I call and use my contacts just like always, and the application finds the best and lowest-cost network to connect to my BlackBerry smartphone."

Features of the company’s RoamAnywhere include mid-call features for Blackberry smartphones such as hold, conferencing, a single enterprise number and voicemail.

Additionally, the system has directory query and call retrieve features equipped with automatic handover for both WiFi and cellular networks.

With such a rocky economy as it is today, Agito’s full-featured cost savings with its international direct dialing and roaming, least-cost routing and dynamic calling rules for BlackBerry users makes the system both technologically advanced and financially “smart.”

Prior to the release of the mobility router, BlackBerry smartphone users could typically only access UC and PBX functionality – such as one enterprise number and voicemail, extension dialing, conferencing and directory query – over the cellular network.

This older cellular-only UC and PBX system is problematic for BlackBerry smartphone users that use their mobile devices indoors, due to poor in-building cellular coverage and high cellular costs.
