Gadgets -WebTech Wireless, The Chameleon Group Incorporate Vehicle Location Technology Into Motorola M990 Phone

Global telematics and location-based service provider WebTech Wireless (News - Alert) Inc. has announced its technology will be used by U.K.-based ASP The Chameleon Group for Motorola’s (News - Alert) M990 Smart Rider in-vehicle phone.

The new Chameleon-and-WebTech-powered Motorola M990 Smart Rider in-vehicle phone incorporates WebTech Wireless’ “Personal Locator” software to automatically report vehicle location, vehicle status and performance measures to Chameleon’s ‘Asset Track’ remote vehicle fleet management system, currently sold throughout the U.K. and Europe.

The Motorola M990 Smart Rider is designed for fleet managers who want to track their vehicles and communicate with drivers in real time. Its large color display gives drivers a clear map and text viewing, while its oversize keys make it easier to use than traditional units. Other features include advanced voice activation and Bluetooth for smoother call and data transfer with handheld devices.

The result is decreased cost, safer operation of vehicles and improved productivity through better scheduling and route optimization, according to the companies.

Additionally, the M990 Smart Rider is the ideal choice for multiple operator vehicles, as it is driver-configurable, eliminating the need for individual handheld phones.

“Motorola continues to innovate in the in-vehicle environment, and the introduction of the M990 Smart Rider with Chameleon’s WebTech Wireless-powered asset-track solution offers a truly relevant and cost-effective tool for fleet and vehicle management, along with Bluetooth technology designed to provide the highest level of hands-free communications,” said Charlie Henderson, general manager of Motorola Companion Products EMEA, in a press statement.

“The use of our software in an in-vehicle phone as advanced as Motorola’s M990, together with Chameleon’s WebTech Wireless-powered asset track solution, underscores the ability of both companies to work together to develop innovative solutions with other respected providers, such as Motorola,” said Harald Fritz, WebTech Wireless’ Senior Director ASP Sales and Services. “Once again, we’re meeting the specific needs of transport and service delivery companies around the world.”
