Gadgets -TCS Releases People Locator

TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert), Inc., or “TCS,” a provider of mission-critical wireless communications, has released TCS People Locator, a new application that enables carriers to offer a high-demand Location-Based Service, or “LBS.”

Company officials said that TCS People Locator provides consumers with the option to securely share their location with family and friends as well as access other location-based information such as points of interest.

The TCS People Locator enables parents to securely monitor the whereabouts of their children, for safety, scheduling and other purposes.

Families can share location to assist with child care or group activities, and friends can securely share location with other friends. Consumers can also locate lost phones using the same application.

TCS People Locator provides consumers with the flexibility to manage location alerts via the mobile Web or PC and to receive notifications based on personalized Geo-zones.

"Our company develops practical and easy-to-use location-based applications that wireless carriers can offer to improve their customers' quality of life," Drew Morin (News - Alert), chief technology officer of TCS, said.

Morin said that TCS People Locator provides users with a secure service that enables them to stay connected with friends and family members. It goes beyond basic social networking by providing the flexibility to schedule location requests or trigger notifications when someone enters or leaves a geographic area or zone such as a home, school, park or other specific area.

According to Morin, the need for locating friends or loved ones is a basic human need. This application provides peace of mind in an easy to use, familiar way.

TCS recently had also announced the immediate availability of TCS Asset Locator, a low-cost on-demand mobile resource management solution for SMBx that rely on a mobile field workforce.

This mobile handset solution enables wireless carriers to offer the growing SMB market a Web-based solution that enables managers and dispatchers to easily view the location of field workers using the embedded GPS technology in a cell phone and to see their current and past locations in a browser-based application.
