Gadgets -TomTom's GO I-90 Navigation Announced

Amsterdam-based TomTom has announced the new GO I-90, a double DIN navigation and radio solution, integrating world-class navigation and in-car infotainment for all types of cars.

The device will be available to buy through ‘12V’ specialist retailers throughout Europe from December 2009. It can be fitted into any car, company officials say, adding that it provides "full radio integration with the car speakers for high quality audio when using spoken instructions, or making hands-free phone calls."

Giles Shrimpton, TomTom’s (News - Alert) Managing Director AUTO, noted that features such as TomTom Map Share -- allowing users to make instant changes to the map and share these with others through TomTom HOME and Safety Alerts -- let drivers "save on speeding tickets" and drive safer.

The device also comes with iPod capability since it includes a USB connection for an MP3 or iPod connection.

In August, TMC's Tom Keating (News - Alert) reported that TomTom for the iPhone "is finally here! The $99 app can be purchased on the Apple App store."

As Keating wrote, "TomTom for the iPhone (News - Alert) comes with turn-by-turn voice guided directions and full maps of the U.S. and Canada. Maps for Europe, Australia, and New Zealand are available separately to buy."

The TomTom app uses their IQ Routes technology, Keating explained, "a sort of peer-to-peer (P2P) GPS routing functionality I predicted one day would happen. Instead of recommending the quickest route based on travel time, IQ Routes analyzes the actual experiences of other TomTom drivers to determine the fastest route to take. According to TomTom, this technology lets people reach their destinations quicker up to 35 percent of the time."
